Tamilnadu – Buses to be operated with full strength for Public

TN state government has announced that the lockdown would be extended in various containment zones across Tamil Nadu till 30th June 2020, There would be the partial opening of public transport plus more employees would be allowed at the workplaces. These would be tandem with the Centres lockdown 5.0 guidelines issued a couple of days back.

The restrictions would still be there in many places and steps would be taken for the revival of the state economy. This was brought to light by the chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswami on Sunday.

He expressed happiness regarding the fatality rate due to Coronavirus being low in TN. He added that the number of persons getting cured of Covid-19 and getting discharged from the hospitals has been the highest in India. Industries and private enterprises outside the limits of GCC could operate with 100 percent employees and workers. This has been as per the new norms. There would be public transport in TN with 50 % fleet strength and with 60% occupancy.

It must be noted that 37 districts of TN have been divided into 8 zones. Buses would not be operated inside the Greater Chennai police limits (zone 8), Tiruvallur, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram (zone 7), etc.

As per the state government’s decision to operate 50% buses, we have decided to operate 1,019 buses, including town buses from Coimbatore division. According to him, 375 buses will be operated from Coimbatore 148 from Nilgiris, 299 from Erode, and 197 from Tirupur.

From 8th June onwards, restaurants could resume their operations in TN but with just 50 percent occupancy. Till 30th June, all the religious places would be closed. It is important to note that cabs, autos, taxis, etc could operate in TN including Chennai with restrictions on the number of passengers.

Except for Chennai and its neighboring districts, buses belonging to state-run corporations and private operators would begin their services across TN. Point is there would be no change in the bus fares and the public need not apply for e-passes to travel on the buses.
