Tamilnadu – 10th Standard minimum pass marks to be reduced

With the State government firm on conducting Class 10 board exams, the School Education Department is also working out the possibility of reducing minimum pass marks to 25% for each subject against the current 35% for students appearing for SSLC exam this year.

This news would bring huge happiness on the face of the class 10 students who would be writing the public examinations in June. All the portions of the class 10 syllabus could not be covered because of the total lockdown in TN. This has resulted in many requests from many state-run schools including private schools etc. It is now said that the government’s request comes against this backdrop of these requests.

It is known that public examinations for class 10 would take place from 15th June till 25th June 2020 in TN and more than 9.5 lakh students would be writing the examinations. The Centre has not allowed the authorities to cancel the examinations and as a result the TN is forced to conduct the examinations. This was mentioned by a senior officer belonging to the Directorate of School Education.

The official pointed out that the decision to reduce the pass percentage will be taken only after reviewing the student’s performance during answer scripts evaluation. “There is also a possibility that the government might announce all pass for those who appeared for SSLC exams,” he said, pointing out that it would be a difficult process to set the new question paper again by reducing the portions, which is the only other option.
The official claimed all school managements were strictly asked to contact their respective students of Class 10 and their parents and allay their fears so they would come to the exam centre without hesitation. The official said that certain private schools, especially those in the city, were against declaring all pass for students since they had completed all portions of the syllabus via online classes.
