No Scope for Schools to be reopened till december; Announced by Central Ministry of Higher Education

As a preventive measure against the spread of the raging coronavirus pandemic, all schools and colleges throughout the country have remained closed since March. Though relaxations in several sectors were announced in each successive phase of the lockdown extension, currently in its 7th Phase, the central government HAS NOT PERMITTED REOPENING OF SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES THUS FAR.

The Secretary of the Central Ministry of Higher Education, Amit Khare has informed that there is no scope for reopening schools and colleges until the end of December.

The meeting of the Central Ministry of Education Parliamentary Council was conducted in Delhi. The Secretary of the Central Ministry of Higher Education, Amit Kare informed the above news during this meeting. He further informed that the Final Examinations will be conducted as scheduled before the end of this year.

It is learned that the central council was constrained to take the above decision as 416 Kendriya Vidyalaya are located in Containment Zones in the country.  At the same time, it has also been announced that a’ Zero Academic Year’ will never be announced.

It is expected that until December, classes will be conducted through online, social radio, and television channels and a detailed announcement regarding this will be released in the next 15 days. As regards the schools in the states, the officials of the central ministry of education informed that this will be left to the individual decision of the respective state governments when the academic year commences.

Regulations from Central Government:

Accordingly, the Central Government has planned to reopen all schools and have planned to release the detailed list of regulations and procedures to be observed regarding the preventions of the raging coronavirus spread to be implemented in all schools during the time of reopening. This will be announced at the time of the reopening of schools.

At the same time, it has also been decided to entrust the state government with the authority to decide on reopening dates according to the prevailing conditions of the coronavirus spread.

As such, the reopening dates of schools and colleges will be decided based on the prevalent conditions on the corona crisis front. The Central Government is seriously considering following the Switzerland government procedure regarding the reopening of schools.

According to this procedure, school classes will be conducted in 2 shifts. If there are 4 sittings for a particular class, a 2-hour session in the forenoon and another 2-hour session in the afternoon will be conducted. The morning shift will function from 8.00 AM to 11.00 AM and the afternoon shift will be from 12.00 Noon to 3.00 PM. In each shift, only 33.33% of teachers and school staff will function.

For the present, permission WILL NOT BE GIVEN for classes up to 5th Standard. This decision has been taken as the children studying in these classes are too young and would find it difficult to adhere to the regulations on coronavirus prevention.

Though the schools are allowed to open after 1st September, permission will be for conducting classes for the first 15 days only for the 10th and 11th Standards. Subsequently, permission will be given to start conducting classes fort eh 6th to 9th Standard students.
