Duckwalk punishment leads to death of Chennai’s Don Bosco Student

On 17th January, Narendar, a 10th Standard student studying at Perambur Don Bosco School was 10 minutes late to school after returning from Pongal holidays. The school’s Physical instructor, Mr Jai Singh had punished the late comers by making them do duckwalk and in a few minutes, Narendar fainted and became unconscious. The school authority took him in an auto rickshaw to provide first aid and it didn’t change Narendar’s situation, so he was rushed to Government Stanley Medical Hospital and was dead before reaching the hospital.

Around 10 AM yesterday, Mr Murali, Narendar’s father was informed that his son became ill and was rushed to hospital. Mr Murali was made to sign a letter stating, ‘Narendar’s death was natural’ by the school after which Mr Murali came to know what happened with his son from fellow students. Mr Murali became furious and protested with his relatives in front of Don Bosco School and surrounded the school last night. The local Police came and checked the school’s CCTV camera footage were the entire incident from Narendar doing his punishment to being taken inside the auto was recorded.
