COVID-19 : CM Edappadi Palaniswami Announces Full lockdown in Chennai and 3 other districts From June 19 – June 30


Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday announced an intense lockdown in Chennai and parts of three neighboring districts for 12 days, beginning on June 19. However, certain relaxations have been given :

100% lockdown imposition will be implemented in Chennai Metro City from 19th June. Only essential activities will be permitted with restriction.

100% lockdown will be imposed in Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chingleput, and the Chennai Metro City under the jurisdiction of the Chennai Police Department.

The chief minister announced Rs 1,000 cash support to all ration cardholders of areas under intense lockdown.

Considering the spread of the virus and based on the recommendation of medical and health experts in an intense lockdown will be a force from 12.00 am of June 19 to midnight of June 30

The intense lockdown will be in effect in Greater Chennai Police limits, Thiruvallur municipality, Gummidipoondi, Ponneri and Minjur town panchayats, and all panchayats of Poonamalle, Ekkadu and Cholavaram panchayat unions, Maraimalainagar local administration. Kanchipuram district: 100% lockdown only in areas under the jurisdiction of the Chennai Metro Police Department.

Exception accorded to medical services and other essential services.Taxis/autos permitted only for emergency needs.

The State Government Departments in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Chennai Metro Police will function with 33% of staff. The State Government Employees who reside in the announced containment zones under the jurisdiction of the Chennai Metro Police NEED NOT ATTEND DUTY

The Central Government Office will function with 33% of staff in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Chennai Metro Police.

The ration shops will be open from 8.00 AM to 2.00 PM in these areas. The rations shops located in the containment zones will not function.

Vegetable shops Vegetable, grocery shops, and Petrol bunks are permitted between 6 am and 2 pm Similarly, mobile vegetable and fruit shops are allowed between 6 am and 2 pm and Petrol bunks will also operate from 6.00 AM to 2.00 PM.

Takeaway services will alone be permitted in restaurants between 6 am and 8 pm, Food delivery agencies may be permitted to function after getting permission, Amma canteens and community kitchens run by the local bodies are permitted to function. No permission for tea shops

During these 12 days of 100% lockdown imposition (19th to 30th June), there are no blocks in the construction where the construction stays and works. On these 12 days, the system will not be allowed for the employees to attend normal duty by going to the company in the morning and returning by the evening/night.

There will be full lockdowns on June 21 and 28 (Sundays), without any relaxation. (From 00.00 hours on June 20 to 06.00hours on June 22 and 00.00hours on June 27 to 06.00 hours on June 29)

E-pass will be given to travel to other districts only for the purpose of marriage, medical, and death, but with necessary documents, The existing rules will remain for trains, flights, and international flights and ships.
