For the last 3 months, the Tamil Nadu government has been taking various measures to control the spread of Coronavirus infection in Chennai. This has proved to be effective now. It was pointed out by the state health minister Mr. C. Vijayabaskar that Covid-19 cure is flattening now in the city of Chennai. The lockdown restrictions have been relaxed in Chennai and in spite of the relaxations the people must follow safety norms such as wearing facemasks, washing hands, etc.
Also, as the relaxations were once announced the police gave permission for the free movement inside the city limits. As a result of this, Chennai roads had many two-wheelers, autos plus call taxis and other private vehicles. In the lockdown to prevent free movement, iron barricades were erected and these barricades were removed yesterday. For the sake of traffic, flyovers like Anna Flyover, Alwarpet flyover, grade separator at Guindy, and Padi flyover were opened.
Many vehicles were seized by the police personnel in the lockdown in Chennai and these vehicles were released yesterday. For the smooth traffic flow from the morning on the Chennai roads, prior arrangements were made. In the complete lockdown, the southern arm of the Inner Ring Road extension that links Velachery Main Road with GST was devoid of any activity and this stretch was buzzing with morning walkers thronging the road yesterday.
The city of Chennai’s major commercial hub, T. Nagar was very busy with the opening of textile and jewellery shops, etc. Crowds thronged the shops present in Ritchie Street, the electronic hub of Chennai. At the designated entry points, the police personnel regulated the people and their vehicles.
